Lightning Roulette, a new online variation of Roulette

Lightning Roulette was developed by Evolution gaming, the company we also know from Dream Catcher, and introduced to the public at the casino ICE 2018 fair in London. Just like Dream Catcher, Lightning Roulette is a combination of entertainment and a casino game in a live casino format. The brand has been pretty succesful with Dream Catcher and so, we guess, it was time for something new.

Get lucky when lightning strikes

Lightning Strikes are lightning bolts: the lightning can strike at 1 to 5 random numbers of the roulette wheel. If the ball lands on a number where lightning has struck, the payout on that number will be higher. Normally it is 30:1, but with lightning struck it is a minimum of 50: 1, but it can be as high as 500: 1. Now that makes the game a whole lot more interesting, doesn’t it?

To explain this a bit further we take an example. Let’s say you have bet on the number 14. Bets are closed and after this the lightning strikes and the Lightning Strikes are determined on the following numbers: 32 (50:1), 9 (100:1) and 14 (500:1). Now your possible win on the number 14 is no longer 30:1 but 500:1! If the ball lands on a number that has not been struck by lightning the payout remains 30: 1 when you’ve bet on that number.

For each game the lightning strikes randomly on 1 to 5 numbers. Which numbers these are, is determined by the Random Number Generator (RNG). This makes Lightning Roulette the first live casino game that makes use of RNG, which of course is used in many online slots and casino games to ensure that players play a fair game.

The paytable of Lightning Roulette

All numbers have a payout of 30:1 when the ball falls on a square bet, a bit lower than regular roulette game where you get 35:1. On numbers that have been struck by lightning, the payout can vary from 50: 1 to 500:1. Lightning can store up to a maximum of 5 numbers. The payments work as follows:

  • 1 number (square) 30:1 to 500: 1
  • 2 numbers (split) 17:1
  • 3 numbers (street) 11:1
  • 4 numbers (corner) 8:1
  • 6 numbers (line) 5:1
  • 1 of the 3 columns (column) 2:1
  • 1 out of 3 dozen boxes (dozen) 2:1
  • 1 to 18 or 19 to 36 (high/low) 1:1
  • 1 to 35 or 2 to 36 (odd/even) 1:1
  • Black or red 1:1

Payout percentage on Lightning Roulette

The percentage of benefits at Lightning Roulette is lower than in regular Roulette. This is due to a reduction of a square bet from 35:1 to 30:1. As a result, the payout percentage at Lightning Roulette is 0.2% lower but the volatility goes up a bit because of the possible bigger wins. The payout percentage at Lightning Roulette is 97.1%, which means that the house advantage is 2.9%. This is 0.2% higher than the 2.7% house advantage that you get with European Roulette. This game is for the players who dare to take risks and like to place square bets. The possible payouts when lightning strikes, can be massive.
