Spin that Reel – Peaky Blinders slot review
Peaky Blinders is a successful British historical drama series from Steven Knight. The series tells the story about the Peaky Blinders, a criminal gang from Birmingham, and their activities in Birmingham shortly after World War I. The first episode aired in 2013 and the serie can be watched on Netflix. As with many popular movies and series, Peaky Blinders now also has its own slotmachine developed by Pragmatic Play.
For this game developer it is the first branded slot. To cut a long story short, for us this slot is a big disappointment and if we did not know Pragmatic Play any better we would think that the team got a bit lazy or in a time squeeze. But let’s dive into the game a bit more anyway or else this review will be the shortest one so far on the Casinokings Club website.
Peaky Blinders has 20 fixed paylines and 5 reels with 3 symbols per reel. The protagonist Thomas Shelby is, how could it be otherwise, the most lucrative symbol. A 5-of-a-kind is good for 20x your stake. The other three premium symbols are Polly Gray, Michael Gray and Arthur Shelby. The lower paying symbols are the predictable 5 royals 10, J, Q, K and A. The RTP of the game is 96,5%. Your stake can be as little as €0,20 and you can crank it all the way up to €100 per spin.
Peaky Blinders base game
The main characters make up the high pays. From low to high, we get Michael Gray, Polly Gray, Arthur Shelby, and hard man Thomas Shelby in his famous hat. Landing a full line of these premiums is worth 5x to 20x your stake. The wild can appear on any reel, worth up to 20x for a line of five. There are two random features and there is a scatter on reel 1, 3 and 5. Despite the random features the base game is pretty boring. There is just not much going on and with a series like this as your inspiration we would have expected more from a studio like Pragmatic Play.
Players get a couple of simple base game bonuses to look out for as well as triggered rounds of free spins. There are two extra scatters besides the bonus game scatter which appear on the last reel – the “Shelby Betting Shop” scatter and the “By Order of the Peaky Blinders” scatter. When they land, without any other bonus symbol in view, they will trigger their respectively named bonus.
When the Shelby Betting Shop bonus is triggered, a monetary amount is applied to all high pay character symbols in view. Each is then added up and paid out.
If the By Order of the Peaky Blinders feature is triggered, any win lines on-screen are paid out. Then, a respin occurs where all character symbols or wilds in view transform into the same matching symbol for an additional payout. It can give a nice win, but nothing fancy.
There is also a logo bonus symbol which lands on reels 1 and 3 and 5. If two of these symbols are in view at the same time as one of the aforementioned scatters, then free spins are awarded.
Peaky Blinders Bonus Game
To make things worse. The bonus game is also boring and basically an extended version of one of the random features in the base game. So not much of a surprise or extra excitement there either except that you have 10 free spins instead of the one respin in the basegame. There are also no retriggers in the bonus games.
After playing the Peaky Blinders slot game, we were stuck with a feeling of disappointment. The series deserved a far more exciting game than this very basic slot game that will soon end up in the archives of the online casinos. It is a Pragmatic Play unworthy game and we think the studio will be glad if the earn back what they paid for the Peaky Blinders license. Don’t bother playing it. If you like Peaky Blinders, watch the series (again) but don’t waste your time and money on this slot. There are many other much better slot titles out there including very good games from Pragmatic Play and we’re sure better games are coming from Pragmatic Play in the near future.
