Spin that Reel – Rise of Olympus slot review

Rise of Olympus is a technical clone of the very popular Moon Princess slot machine from game developer Play’n GO. Now this may sound a bit cheap, but we can’t really blame Play’n Go since Moon Princess is one of their most succesful and popular slots of all time. The graphics of this new slot are definitely a level up compared to Moon Princess with beautifully designed gods, super animations and exciting effects.

The game is played on a matrix of 5 x 5 symbols. There are no fixed paylines but with cascading symbols. This means that winning combinations disappear and the parent symbols fall down. This makes it possible to create multiple winning combos in succession. Other well-known slots with cascading symbols besides Moon Princess, are Gems of the Gods and Energoonz.

Winning combinations are created by 3 or more horizontal or vertical symbols in a row. With a winning combination of 3 symbols, the middle symbol is changed to a wild symbol, which remains at least one more turn.

After every winning combination, the multiplier goes up by +1, which can result in nice payouts. The three gods are the highest paying symbols and also pay in a mix of gods symbols.

Distribution percentage and variance of Rise of Olympus

Rise of Olympus has an excellent payout ratio (RTP) of 96.5%. The variance is high: especially during the free spins bonus (with its 20 x multipliers) you can win huge amounts.

The Hand of God feature

On the right side of the screen is always 1 of the 3 Gods. These alternate and can, after a non-winning turn, use their forces once to help you. Sometimes these forces are very useful, and sometimes they do not lead anywhere. After the special power is deployed, a new God takes the place of the previous one. This keeps the game constantly changing and exciting.

  • Poseidon: this gives 1 or 2 extra wilds on the screen
  • Hades: 1 symbol changes to another symbol
  • Zeus: two symbols are removed from the screen

Rise of Olympus hand of god

multiplier up to 20 times!

On the left side of the screen you see a meter, consisting of 3 boxes. Every time you make a winning combination of 3 or more Gods, the meter is filled. As soon as the meter is filled, you are taken to a new screen. This is where the game gets really exciting, because now you are one step closer to the free spins bonus like with the trinity in Moon Princess. You get the free spins bonus by emptying the entire screen in 1 rotation. Fortunately, you are being helped by the Gods again: they activate all 3 super powers in succession. Are you able to clear all symbols? Then you can make a little jump of joy.

You now get the choice:

  • 4 free spins with Hades feature
  • 5 free spins with Poseidon feature
  • 8 free spins with Zeus feature

During the free spins, the multiplier increases to a maximum of 20 times. But the beauty is, it is never reset. So once it is at 20 x, it stays there.

If you fill the meter on the left side again during a spin, you win a retrigger that yields between 2 and 4 extra spins (depending on which bonus you have chosen). In other words: if you manage to get the multiplier at 20 x and you also pick up a number of retriggers, then this is a slot where you can win really big. You can win up to 20 free spins.

Our verdict

Of course, for the experienced player Rise of Olympus is a 100% clone of Moon Princess. But a well made clone of one of the best slots ever made. We can certainly see ourselves play this slot more than once, but we won’t forget the girls of Moon Princess either.
