Spin that Reel – Money Train Slot Review

Money Train is a game by Relax Gaming and comes with 5 reels and 40 paylines. This game can be played  on all devices (including tablets and smartphones) and the stake varies from 20p to £50 per spin.  This slot has a Western theme that evolves around robbing a money train to score big wins. This highly volatile game can compete with other Western themed games such as Sticky Bandits, Gunslinger Reloaded, and of course Dead or Alive I and Dead or Alive II.

The game has nice graphics and a classic western soundtrack. On the money train carriage you find symbols  diamonds, spades,  as 4 members of the Wild West gang and of course the usual lower symbols of hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs. Special appearances are reserved for the the gunslinger, the TNT expert, the debt collector and their notorious leader. The leader is obviously top symbol giving you 0.8, 4 or 20 times your stake for 3, 4 or 5 across a payline. The 2 crossed guns symbol is the wild which replaces all other symbols to form winning combinations.

The game has a pretty nice Money Cart Bonus feature – this bonus is activated when you get the bonus symbol simultaneously on reels 1, 3 and 5. The 3 triggering symbols will then reveal a cash value – 3 free spins will then follow. Each time a new symbol hits 1 of the positions, the free spins tally resets to 3. The symbol without value is a tumble weed. The bonus feature continues as long as new symbols – other than tumble weeds – appear on the reels. In the bonus game there are six new symbols than can land which give you the following:

  • The Money Safe reveals an xbet value.
  • The Persistent Collector gives you a stake multiplier and collects all visible values on the reels and adds them to its own value at the end of that spin and each spin that follows.
  • The Persistent Payer gives you a stake multiplier and adds it to all visible symbols on the reels for that spin and any spin that follows.
  • The Payer gives you a stake multiplier which is added to all other visible symbols on the reels.
  • The Collector gives you a stake multiplier and then collects all visible values on the reels and adds them to its own value.
  • The Widener reveals a stake multiplier and opens up an extra reel for even more wins.

Buy the bonus

Money Train also offers you a Buy feature where you can buy your way into the Money Cart Bonus feature for 80 times your stake. To win big, you need to see the Widener as an additional reel will add more symbols which will lead to more stake multipliers and bigger wins. All in all, this feature can lead to payouts of up to 20,000 times your stake! In the base game, you can win up to 800 times your stake by filling the reels with the notorious leader so this is quite a big difference.  It will also boost the RTP from 96.2% to 98.0%.

Our verdict

To be honest, we have played better games than Money Train. The base game is quite boring and this is made worse by the relatively low bonus frequency. Of course, you can always buy the bonus but that is a feature not all players are up for. But the bonus game is where te fun and excitiment of this game is.

If you like volatile games then you definitely need to try out money train. It can give serious payouts in the Money Cart Bonus feature if you manage to collect more than one of the six special characters. But as you probably already know, the one and only real volatile game with a western theme is without a doubt Net Entertainment’s Dead or Alive II where you can win as much as 40,500 times your stake on each free spin in 1 of the free spins features. All in all we think Money Train is a nice addition to the many games out there, but this game is not for the player who is looking for a lower volatile slot.
