Spin that reel – Jack and the Beanstalk slot review

Jack and the Beanstalk is without a doubt one of the most popular evergreen slots ever made by Netent. So it was about time we would review it in our Spin that Reel slot reviews listing. This slot is loosely based on the classic fairytale. It has a unique Walking Wilds feature where wilds give you re-spins at no extra cost. There’s a Free Spins feature where you can get up to 15 free spins with a Treasure Collection feature where you collect keys to give you stacked wilds and expanding wilds. Bets start at as little as 20 cents and go up to €100 per spin.

Walking Wilds

Jack and the Beanstalk uses the all new Walking Wild feature – when a Walking Wild appears on any reel during the base game and free spins feature, you will get a re-spin (at no extra cost). The wild then moves 1 reel to the left which gives you more chances of winning. There can be more than one walking wild at a time, this will carry on giving your re-spins until all the wilds are gone. The good thing though is that Walking Wilds have a 3x multiplier attached to them.

Free Spins

The Free Spins mode also features the Walking Wild. You can trigger the free spins game by getting 3 or more Treasure Chest symbols anywhere on the reels which will reward you with 10 free spins. If you get 3 or more Treasure Chests during the feature, you will get a further 5 free spins. The good thing is that all free spins wins with wild symbols are also multiplied by 3x.

Treasure collection feature

3 or more scatter symbols – the treasure chests – activate 10 free spins. 3 or more scatter symbols during free spins activate 5 additional free spins.

The fifth reel has a special role in the bonus game. It contains the key symbol that can unlock the following wild features:

  • 2 Stacked Money Bags: Collect 3 key symbols, and the next Wild appearing on the reels will become a Stacked Wild of 2 money bag symbols.
  • 3 Stacked Golden Hens: Collect 6 key symbols, and the next Wild appearing on the reels will become a Stacked Wild of 3 golden hen symbols.
  • Expanding Golden Harps: Collect 9 key symbols, and the next wild appearing on the reels will become an Expanding Wild with a golden harp symbol. This Wild expands to cover the entire reel, and shifts for a chance at bigger wins, especially if you land more than one. At the end of free spins sessions, all the symbols collected are discarded. Once you have collected 9 key symbols, and there are no more Expanding Wilds present on the reels, the game returns to the base game.

Our Verdict

Jack and the Beanstalk is a medium volatility game where wins appear fairly frequently in the base game. The Walking Wilds can result in some pretty nice wins and will keep you entertained easily. There’s a whopping 1,500 times your stake to be won in both the base game and free spins feature. Of course the best bet to get a big win is to collect the 9 keys in the free spins feature. Of course this is quite a challenge to achieve. Overall Jack and the Beanstalk is quite an entertaining slot to play because of the different kind of bonus features. Of course the nice graphics add to the overall entertainment value, but this is something Netent is known for.
