Playtech opens the world’s largest live casino studio
In a deal with Greek lottery monopoly, OPAP, Playtech has added a 8,500 square meter live dealer casino in Riga, Latvia to its existing live studios in Belgium, Philippines, Romania, and Spain. According to reports, the studio has been built the new live live dealer casino atop the stone walls of Riga’s Old Town or Vecrīga.
OPAP has also partnered with Playtech’s BGT Sports division, Novomatic Lottery Solutions, and Genius Sports Group. The three new partnerships are part of a €100m ($108 million) investment plan over the next few years, OPAP said.
According to Playtech it is the largest live casino studio in the world. From the studio Playtech provides live casino entertainment for various online casinos where you can play at real blackjack and roulette tables with human dealers through your webcam.
The establishment is not only large, but also very modern. On the 8500 meters of floor space are hundreds of gaming tables with state-of-the-art cameras that provide ultimate, never-before-seen gaming experience, according to the press release. In addition, the building houses the new Playtech dealer campus, where all new croupiers and dealers are trained and educated.
Playtech already has live casino studios in the Philippines, Belgium, Spain and Romania. According to Playtech the new studio in Latvia is needed to meet the growing demand for live casino services. From Riga the company wants to operate most of the European market. The existing other offices will not be closed because they are needed to meet local regulations. For example Belgium requires that a live casino studio must be in Belgium itself so for that country the location in Riga is not legal.
The chief executive of Playtech, Mor Weizer, is pretty stoked about the new studio: “This has been a huge project, but more importantly, it is a huge step forward in the field of live casino and no other company than Playtech could make such a big step. It are the players who will benefit the most from the best live casino offerings in the market. ”
Playtech is not market leader (yet)
Playtech has 5,000 employees in 13 countries and a turnover of over € 630 million (figures from 2015), the largest casino software company in the world.
Yet it has no leading position in the field of live casinos in Europe. That honor goes to the specialized live casino provider Evolution, which also has a massive presence in Riga. Meanwhile the live casinos employs hundreds of people in the Latvian capital.
