Largest casino in Europe is being built on Cyprus

City of Dreams Mediterranean will be the largest brand new casino in Europ with a price tag of a whopping 550 million euro. The build has just started on the west side of the harbour city Limassol on the south coast of Cyprus. The planned opening is in 2021.

The president of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiadis, laid the first stone on Jun 8th: ‘Today is a historic day that marks an important landmark for our country. This great work is expected to be completed in 2021 The project is expected to generate about 4,000 jobs during its construction, and when it is completed and put into operation it is estimated to create around 6,500 full-time jobs.’

The formidable casino and entertainment complex is expected to attract 300,000 extra tourists to Limassol every year. What you call an impressive gamble resort.

City of Dreams Mediterranean without Hard Rock

City of Dreams Mediterranean is built and operated by Melco Resorts & Entertainment, one of the major casino operators in Asia. In Macau and Manila there have been casino complexes for years that also bear the name City of Dreams. Melco is also known as the company behind the mega casino Studio City in Macau.

Initially it was the intention that in Cyprus the big neon letters of Hard Rock would hang on the façade. Plus of course the inevitable famous guitar. But the American casino multinational Hard Rock International has withdrawn permanently. While the sketches for Hard Rock Casino Cyprus looked very promising, somehow the deal just did not come through.

 

But City of Dreams Mediterranean will still look amazing with so much more to offer:

• 7500 square meter casino with 140 gaming tables, including roulette and blackjack, plus 1200 slot machines.
• 11 restaurants and bars.
• Hotel with more than 500 ultraluxe suites and villas.
• Theater with 1500 seats.
• Shopping center in the form of a reconstructed neighborhood in the center of Nicosia.
• Series of impressive outdoor and indoor swimming pools.
• Spa, a sauna and a fitness center.
• Conference center.

So, you’ve got a few years to visit the rest of Europe, but in 2021 this should be the hot spot on Cyprus where you can enjoy a well deserved vacation and try your luck. No need to go all the way to Las Vegas.
